Apropriando-se de palavras pejorativas comumente utilizadas para se referir ao indivíduo negro, gradativamente a artista transfere estas palavras que inicialmente estão escritas em seu corpo, ao chão. Pinta-as com tinta guache no solo, ao mesmo tempo em que caminha sobre essas palavras, deixando sobre elas suas pegadas. Paralelamente a esta ação lava o seu corpo e retira de sua pele essa sujeira momentânea.

O corpo antes frágil e sujeitado a uma representação pejorativa, transforma-se em agente ativo de poder, que rejeita esta representação e se purifica tanto interna quanto externamente ao se lavar desta alcunha a ele imputada.

Purification I [2013]

Appropriating pejorative words commonly used to refer to the black individual, the artist gradually transfers to the ground these words that are initially written on her body. She paints them with gouache paint on the ground, at the same time she walks on these words, leaving her footprints on them. Parallel or at the end of this action she washes her body and removes from her skin this momentary dirt.

The body, once fragile and subjected to a pejorative representation, becomes an active agent of power, which rejects this representation and purifies itself both internally and externally by washing from these nicknames imputed to it.
