Deformação busca expor um conflito comumente enfrentado por mulheres negras e à margem do padrão estético imposto por nosso meio social, que se vê segregada, menosprezada e não representada em nossos meios midiáticos e até mesmo em ambientes de convívio diário, muitas vezes não figurando como referências de “boa aparência” e “beleza”, tornando concretas as feridas incutidas na autoestima desta mulher.

Sentada diante de um espelho, a performance é iniciada em um processo de condicionamento estético através da maquiagem. Gradativamente a relação antes estabelecida com o espelho e a imagem nele refletida é alterada. Há uma espécie de estranhamento diante desta imagem, e com uma escova o cabelo é esticado, moldado, de forma agressiva, desesperada, provocando assim, uma espécie de deformação dessa imagem refletida no espelho.

Deformation [2015]

Deformation seeks to expose a conflict commonly faced by black women and in the margins of the aesthetic standard imposed by our social environment, which is segregated, despised and not represented in our media and even in daily convivial environments, often not appearing as references of “good looks” and “beauty”, making concrete the wounds inculcated in this woman’s self-esteem.

Sitting in front of a mirror, the performance begins in a process of aesthetic conditioning through makeup. Gradually the relationship established before with the mirror and the image reflected in it is changed. There is a kind of estrangement in front of this image, and with a brush the hair is stretched, shaped, aggressively, desperate, thus causing a kind of deformation of this mirrored image.
